“Ave Maria” was originally composed by F. Schubert as a Lied inspired by a Walter Scott poem.
In the original Lied, Ellen (the protagonist of the poem) asks for help from the Virgin Mary by singing her this song.
Over time, the original lyrics have been replaced with the “Ave Maria” text, and nowadays the score is universally known as “Ave Maria”. Only a few people know that the original title was “Ellens Dritter Gesang” (Ellen’s Third Song).
The key of the score is B-flat major.
The difficulty level is intermediate, making the score playable by bandoneon players with some experience.
